WEAVING

by Inés Li-Wearing

For sale are a series of hand woven, baby alpaca wool, throws made in northern Peru. The wool is worked to produce an animated surface that evokes the grain of the natural landscape. The work engages with remote weaving communities to promote the continuity of their craft and the use of local fibres. The earliest examples of Peruvian textiles containing alpaca wool date from 2500BC.

Baby alpaca is a classification of fineness, rather than originating from a young animal. It is the softest fleece shorn from the nape and neck; when spun into yarn, it has a silky softness comparable to cashmere.

Each product is made in a limited edition of 5.

Materials

Baby alpaca wool can be professionally dry cleaned or washed carefully at home, with mild detergent and cool water. Dry flat and iron on a medium heat if needed. It is durable and naturally water-repellent and  due to the structure of the fibres, it is warmer than sheep's wool.  It is hypoallergenic, it does not contain lanolin.
